After being selected with the fourth pick (34th overall) in the second round of this past June’s draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jae Crowder, last season’s Big East Player of the Year, was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
With averages of 11 points and four rebounds in the preseason, Crowder is looking like one of the steals of the 2012 draft. Through the first three regular season games, Crowder is averaging eight points, three rebounds and one assist in 21 minutes of action.
Crowder’s contributions have been huge in the absence of Dirk Nowitzki and Chris Kaman. Nowitzki is still recovering from knee surgery, and the oft-injured Kaman missed the first two regular season games with a calf strain.
Watching the Mavs’ opening game against the Lakers last week, I was impressed not just by the rook’s production but also the way he carried himself. Crowder didn’t look like a rookie going against the high powered Lakers, instead carrying himself with the moxie of a confident veteran.
Crowder still has a lot to prove, but from what I have seen thus far, Crowder has the chance to be a mainstay in an NBA rotation for years to come.
Collectors may want to use this opportunity to get their hand on Crowder’s rookie cards while the price is right.
His 2012-13 Panini Threads Rookie Autographed Card can be had for the buy it now price of 24.99 on e-Bay.
