While I was visiting California for Christmas last month, I was able to visit the local card shop, Bases Cards and Comics in Lancaster, CA. Given the fact I now reside in Florida, trips to Bases are few and far between.
While I was visiting my “old stomping grounds,” I was able to get my hands on a few hobby packs. Given my nearest card shop in Florida is nearly an hour and a half away, I am usually forced to rely on retail packs from Target and Wal-Mart.
Given my nostalgic feeling of being back in Bases and a pocketful of Christmas money, I took advantage of being in an actual card shop.
My purchases included six packs of the new 2012-13 Panini Contenders Basketball and two packs of 2012-13 Panini Totally Certified Basketball. Each pack of Totally Certified boasts a guaranteed hit. While each pack of Contenders doesn’t yield a guaranteed hit, each hobby box contains four autographs.
My first pack of Totally Certified yielded a DeANDRE Liggins Rookie Roll Call Blue Autograph Card, numbered to 199. The second pack of TC contained a Bismack Biyombo Totally Red Memorabilia Card.
Pictures of the two cards can be seen below.
Of the six packs of Contenders I cracked, I was treated to two hits. The first consisted of a Trey Thompkins rookie autograph card. In my second to last pack of Contenders, I found a Pau Gasol Contenders Materials Card, numbered to 99.
The jersey card was a great surprise in itself but given the fact it was of Pau Gasol, a player I heavily collect, made my rare trip to Bases a great success.
Check out the photos of the Contenders cards below.
