All is right for basketball fans around the world. Last night the 67th NBA season tipped off, which saw the Heat, Cavs and Mavs notch victories over the Celtics, Wizards and Lakers, respectively.
Fans cannot only expect basketball games every night from now until the middle of June, but they can also expect an increase in new basketball card releases in some of the coming months. After releasing only one product each of the last three months, Panini is set to have three basketball card releases in the month of November alone, including Prizm (a sample of a Prizm insert card can be seen to the right) Totally Certified and Panini Limited.
But before we can turn the page on October and start looking forward to the releases in November, let’s take an inside look at the one and only October basketball card release from Panini: 2012-13 Panini Threads Basketball.
One of the many insert sets included in this season’s Threads release is Inside Presence, which pays homage to some of the game’s best big men. Maybe it’s because I played in the in the frontcourt as a middle school and high school basketball player, but I have always had a soft spot for the guys who get it done down low.
Hence the attraction to this insert set.
The set includes 25 cards, featuring mainstays in the middle such as: Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum and the Gasol brothers, in addition to players such as second year player Tristan Thompson from the Cavs and blooming Timberwolves big man Nikola Pekovic.
What really grabbed my attention was the image of the grainy looking piece of hardwood basketball court in the background, which gives the cards a rugged look.
Photos of the cards can be seen below. And click here to read all about Panini’s new, multi-year extension with the NBA.
